CURATED BESPOKE EXPEDITION

The Sapporo Powder & Japanese Whisky Expedition

To be honest, we are more than a little excited about this one. It is the perfect combination: world-class powder without the crowds, a genuine city on your doorstep, incredible food, luxury accommodation, and experiences you simply cannot get anywhere else in Japan. It really is the ultimate package.

Sapporo is arguably Japan’s best-kept snow destination secret.

Often treated as a brief transit stop on the way to the more famous resorts, Sapporo is frequently bypassed by crowds rushing through to the standard tourist hubs. That is precisely what makes it special. While everyone else is queuing at the big-name resorts, you are carving fresh lines on quiet, lift-accessed slopes a short drive from your hotel. There is a very good reason the Winter Olympics were hosted here in 1972: this is a legitimate skiing capital, just one most visitors never think to look for.

Best of all, you do not have to trade luxury for it. Everywhere else in Hokkaido, stepping off the tourist trail usually means a smaller town, a simpler hotel, and fewer dining options. Sapporo flips that entirely.

By day, it is uncrowded resort riding and expert-guided side-country. There are no long backcountry treks required, just a private guide who knows exactly where the powder sits untouched.

By evening, you are not eating at another ski-town restaurant catering to the international crowd. You are at counters and izakaya frequented by Sapporo locals themselves, ordering what they order, in a city that has never had to dress itself up for tourists because it was never really trying to attract them.

As the snowiest major city on Earth, Sapporo and its surrounding peaks are blessed with metres upon metres of pristine Hokkaido powder each winter. Best of all, weekday slopes are practically empty while the locals are at work, leaving the powder stashes wide open for you.

This is one of the most unique ski experiences in Japan. With private guides and dedicated daily transfers taking you to a different resort each day, you return every night not to a quiet mountain lodge, but to a real city: five-star luxury, exceptional dining, and exclusive, money-can't-buy experiences like a private tasting at the world-famous Nikka Yoichi Distillery.
