Tokyo’s Newest Hotel Openings To Get Excited About

We’ve stayed in our fair share of hotels here at The Snow Concierge and we think we’re a pretty good judge of what really differentiates the good from the great. Japan is famed for its ‘omotenashi’, the Japanese philosophy of providing exceptional hospitality, and whether you’re staying at a traditional inn (ryōkan) in the countryside or a luxury boutique hotel in Tokyo, you’ll likely be blown away by the level of service provided.

Tokyo already has a raft of awesome hotels with a loyal following, including some of The Snow Concierge’s personal favourites such as the Andaz Tokyo, The Capitol Hotel, Hoshinoya, and The Park Hyatt Tokyo – just to name a few.

We love these tried and tested options and we’ll certainly be frequent guests of theirs in future but we’re also super excited about some of Tokyo’s newest hotel openings, many of which were developed in the lead up to the Tokyo Olympics. Border closures may have meant a slightly delayed opportunity for travellers to experience some of these new Tokyo accommodation options but that’s certainly not the case now.

Here’s a breakdown of some new hotels to get excited about…and there are plenty more!

  • Bulgari Hotel Tokyo – opened earlier this month, this luxe Italian hotel near Tokyo Station is one of just eight Bulgari hotels globally. With stunning views of Mt Fuji and overlooking the Imperial Palace gardens, this gorgeous property has a luxury boutique vibe with their 98 rooms mixing Japanese and Italian design aesthetics. We’ve heard amazing things about their eight-seater sushi restaurant and can’t wait to check it out!

  • Tokyo Edition – the Toranomon area has seen some serious development in recent years and its cool factor just went up a notch with the opening of the Tokyo Edition hotel. The hotel boasts spectacular views of the Tokyo skyline and a bar that practically begs to you to people watch. Trust us, your Instagram will be working overtime at this hotel.

  • Kimpton Shinjuku – for those of you keen on a stay in the western Tokyo location of Shinjuku and its accompanying nightlife, the relatively recent opening of the Kimpton will surely please. Located opposite the Park Hyatt, the Kimpton features a terrace garden and rooftop bar, as well as excellent dining options.

  • The Okura Hotel – it may seem like a strange addition to this list given the Okura has been a Tokyo icon since 1962, but a pre-Olympics redevelopment has seen this timeless grand hotel reimagined (thankfully with a respectful nod to its past). Everything about this hotel whispers understated elegance.

  • The Aoyama Grand Hotel – with mid century design vibes and a rooftop bar with killer views, there’s a lot to like about this newcomer in one of our favourite Tokyo neighbourhoods. We’re fans of hotels with great dining options and epic playlists and the Aoyama Grand delivers on both of these in spades.

Whether it’s a serviced apartment with all the mod cons, a fabulous but unpretentious hotel or a traditional luxury ryokan, we’ve got you covered as far as your Tokyo accommodation needs go.
