A Postcard From Tokyo

Well we weren’t quite on the first flight out of Sydney to Tokyo after Japan reopened but we came pretty close! After a long two and half years of border closures in both Australia and Japan prevented us from getting our Japan fix, we’re finally back in Tokyo. So we thought we’d drop you all a quick note with our initial impressions of a newly opened Tokyo. Is it still the awesome city we know and love? Well, other than masking being required indoors, Tokyo feels very much the same city we last visited in February 2020 just as COVID was about to change the world forever. The vibe is upbeat, and life feels relatively normal. Granted, there’s a noticeable absence of foreign tourists on the street and we’ve been able to get into some bucket list restaurants at short notice as a result (which I’d call a win!!) but otherwise Tokyo just feels like Tokyo. A bit quieter than normal but reassuringly alive and thriving. Our Japanese friends and colleagues are excited at the prospect of visitors returning as entry regulations loosen. It’s so good to be back.
